I was very happy to capture four boats at this dock during sunset with the fog just hanging over the top of Morro Rock. I hope you enjoy this photo as much did taking it. This is a very highly defined image and enlarges very well taken with a high resolution digital camera. It looks great on canvas or premium glossy photo paper. The colors are very vivid and pleasurable to the eyes. This is a very popular place in Morro Bay, California right on the Embarcadero. A bonus in this photo is the light shining in the boat with blue trim.

The tide is high here in Morro Bay, California on this beautiful day! Notice the offshore wind blowing against the waves as they power their way to shore. I love the huge splash caught in this photo of a large wave pounding Morro Rock. The wet sand reflects the beauty of the sky as night starts to fall over the west coast. You can see the city of Los Osos and Montana De Oro State Park in the background. This is a high resolution photo and enlarges well. This photo also looks good in black and white.

Today is a new day in photography

As long as I can remember I have always been fascinated by photography.  When I was a young boy I can remember my father taking photos with an old Polaroid camera.  He would snap a shot then he would count out the developing time and peal the coating off to reveal the developed photo.  It was like magic to me and I loved it.  I’ve always been awed by cameras and tape recorders.  When I was about 15 years old I got my first SLR camera. (Single Lens Reflex) It was a Minolta XG7.  I absolutely loved that camera.  I soon was shooting black and white film and developing my own photos in the laundry room that I converted into a dark room with my parent’s permission.  Those were the days and I cherish the memories.

I have always been a person that loves change and new technology.  I always wanted the latest and greatest new gadget, a new camera, tape recorder or computer.  I have had many cameras, computers, audio recorders and high quality video equipment for shooting television commercials or documentaries.   Sometimes my love for the new technology would over shadow my creativity and I would get into the pit of trying to learn the new equipment and not progressing more creatively.

Today is a new day.  I like to think I have learned a few lessons along the way.  Now whatever I am doing I try to enjoy the experience not letting the technology side distract me as it did before.  I find now that my creative side has grown so much more and my confidence is a lot higher.

I have embraced the digital camera era with all my heart.  Just like a child waiting to see the photo after his father pulls back the Polaroid film strip, I can’t wait to see what pops up on my digital camera screen.  Looking at it on a huge computer screen is even better.  Whether I am waiting to turn the light on in the dark room and see the results for the first time or loading my photos on the computer to view them, that awesome feeling is still the same for me.  Only with digital, that great feeling happens instantly.

The serendipity moments in photography are the best.  When that magical, unexpected moment happens of capturing something I wasn’t looking for or expecting like the shot of a humpback whale near Morro Rock.  I was hoping to get some seals or pelicans maybe but not a breaching humpback whale.  That is what is so great about photography!

I consider myself very fortunate to live in Morro Bay California.  It is hard to take a bad picture in this part of the world.   Morro Bay is a bird sanctuary and home to a variety of wild life.  Not far from Montana De Oro and Big Sur California, Morro Bay is a photographer’s paradise.  My mission is to share my best photos with you. I pride myself in offering fine art giclee prints at affordable prices.  I hope you enjoy my photography as much as I enjoy sharing it.

May God bless you always and thank you for visiting!

Yours truly,

Lightning in Morro Bay California Fine Art Print

We never have lightning in Morro Bay, California. At least that is what I was told. Then one night, it just keeps on striking over and over again. I thought it would stop soon but it didn't. Every time it flashed I thought to myself, "that is probably the last one I wont be able to catch it with my camera." After about 45 minutes of this I couldn't take it anymore so I jumped in my truck and headed for Morro Rock. I must say I am very happy I did. I missed a lot of great shots but this one was well worth my trouble. I had my camera on a tripod and I exposed the rock several times hoping for a lightning flash to hit but nothing! At least I learned how long to expose the rock just in case I did get the shot. Finally I nailed the shutter just as this bolt hit then I held it open for about 30 more seconds and WOW. You can see the bolt of lightning on both sides of Morro Rock. I was counting the seconds from the time I saw the lightning to the time I heard the thunder and I believe this bolt was about 30 to 40 miles away from Morro Bay. This shot was taken right at about 12 o'clock midnight. It is a high resolution fine art print and enlarges very well.
