I was very happy to capture four boats at this dock during sunset with the fog just hanging over the top of Morro Rock. I hope you enjoy this photo as much did taking it. This is a very highly defined image and enlarges very well taken with a high resolution digital camera. It looks great on canvas or premium glossy photo paper. The colors are very vivid and pleasurable to the eyes. This is a very popular place in Morro Bay, California right on the Embarcadero. A bonus in this photo is the light shining in the boat with blue trim.

The tide is high here in Morro Bay, California on this beautiful day! Notice the offshore wind blowing against the waves as they power their way to shore. I love the huge splash caught in this photo of a large wave pounding Morro Rock. The wet sand reflects the beauty of the sky as night starts to fall over the west coast. You can see the city of Los Osos and Montana De Oro State Park in the background. This is a high resolution photo and enlarges well. This photo also looks good in black and white.
Things To Do in Morro Bay California

People are always asking me at my gallery, "What kind of things are there to do here in Morro Bay?" and "Where is a good place to eat?"  Well there are so many wonderful things to do in Morro Bay and great restaurants, that question is not easy to answer.  I usually ask them what they like to do then direct them that way.  I know what I like to do and what kind of food I like but that does not mean they will like it.  For instance kayaking and whale watching are great things I wouldn't want to miss out on if I were visiting.  For some people that is a little to much adventure.  Fortunately there are so many things to do and see here you shouldn't get bored.  I never have.  True, if you want to go bowling, shopping in a mall or Wal-Mart, you won't find that here.  The shopping is right next to the bay, down on the Embarcadero.  Just up from the Embarcadero near the hotels is Main Street and Morro Bay Blvd. with little old home town stores.  Mine is one of them so put that one on the top of your list! Remember those little home town stores?  Where did they all go?  Hmmm I wonder.  They came to Morro Bay!

Here you will find stuff you won't find in the Mall, Costco or Wal-Mart.  You can find all that 30 miles away if you want.  I suggest staying right here and trying something new.  Visiting Morro Bay is like traveling back in time.  No traffic jams, no room for Wal-Mart or Costco thank God.  Just a real nice laid back town where you can feel safe. That is why I moved here.  I think we have one of the best police departments in the country and I hope they read that.  They are not ticket happy like so many other beach towns.  You know those towns with all the parking spots you have to pay for?  It is not like that in Morro Bay.  How they managed to keep it this way I will never know but that is the way it is and I like it.  Free parking baby!

I am trying not to get side tracked here, on to things to do.   What is my favorite activity?  Taking pictures of this beautiful part of the planet.  There is an endless variety of wild life.  Morro Bay is a bird sanctuary.  I love taking pictures of birds in flight.  Especially pelicans.  There are many boat docks and piers on the bay next to the Embarcadero.  I take my camera with me and take pictures of birds in flight.  The scene in Morro Bay is always changing.  All the sail boats anchored in the bay with Morro Rock behind them make for some spectacular pictures. I love Morro Rock and keep taking pictures of it over and over. You can see it from miles away. North and South.

A great place to walk is along the Embarcadero out to Morro Rock.  There is a paved pathway just for walking right next to the bay.  No need to worry about cars near your children on this path.

The food is great here in Morro Bay.  I have my favorite places to eat but they all are really good.  There are many places down on the Embarcadero.  My all time favorite for many years has been the Hofbrau on Embarcadero.  Located on the water front with a great view. They make the best French dips in the world. "World Famous" hand-carved roast beef,  fish and chips, salads, beer and wine.  My second favorite is a Great American Fish Company.  It is located on the water front as well.  My favorite is the Blackened Red Snapper.  You can watch the cook cooking over an open flame through glass.  Another favorite in Dorn's for breakfast.  I get the Harry's Special Scramble.  If you are lucky you might meet some very famous people eating here.

Whale watching and deep see fishing are at the top of my list for favorite things to do as well here in Morro Bay.  Take your camera because you never know when you might see something like THIS.  I took a picture of a Humpback Whale breaching on August 5, 2005 that you won't believe.

Fishing off the local piers does not require a fishing license and is great fun.  The guys can fish in the bay while the gals go shopping on the same street.  I have caught bat rays over 50lbs at night.  You never know what you are going to catch in the bay. I say go for tiger sharks or halibut and more than likely you will hook into a bat ray. One time it took three guys taking turns on a huge bat ray to bring him in.  You will need a gaff and the right set up for shark.  Virg's Landing can set you up with that stuff.  Perch fishing right on the beach is great fun.  There is nothing like catching a fish right out of the surf!  I have caught them only a few feet away.  You do not need a huge pole for this. A good bass pole works great.  Ask Virg's Landing how to set up for surf fishing.  I use a small motor oil grub and a ½ ounce slip weight about 3 feet above the grub. Support the weight with a small swivel. When the fish bites it will not feel the weight.  The motor oil grub looks like a sand crab to the fish.  If you can plan a deep see trip North of the light house past San Simeon, go for it!  The fish are a lot bigger up there off the shores of Big Sur.

Surfing and boogie boarding are huge here in Morro Bay.  You can rent everything from several shops here in town.  Many places offer lessons as well. This is a surfers paradise.  The waves get very big here so be careful. Be extra careful around Morro Rock.  Sometimes the ripe tide is very strong there and dangerous.  Parents need to watch their children at all times near the ocean.  There are other beaches near by where the waves are smaller so if it is ruff, go there.  If you have any concerns or questions about safety there is a local Coast Guard Station here in Morro Bay.  The surf shops can also give you more information on safety. Watch the weather and local surfing reports for conditions.

Kite flying, volley ball, Frisbee, sun tanning, pick-nicking and all kinds of other things are fun on the beach.  My wife and I like to walk along the top of the dunes on the beach near Morro Rock for exercise.  We did it at least once and plan on doing it again soon LOL! I had to put that is there, sorry honey.  Yeah, exercise is one of those activities I plan on doing a whole lot more of tomorrow.  Only problem is this is today not tomorrow.  Am I being to honest here?  Well if you are like me then you need to get out there and do it today!  See you on the beach.  I'll be the guy with the long camera lens.

That is enough for now.   Hopefully I have given you a few ideas of fun things to do here in Morro Bay.
